Dear Senators and Representatives,

Being a representative form a border state, that takes a lot of the brunt of illegal immigration, I am surprised to find the extent that both of our Texas Senators JUST DO NOT GET IT! Have you seen the poll numbers?

“… 78% of likely Republican voters favor immigration reform that includes increased border security, tougher penalties for employers who hire illegal workers, a policy that allows illegal immigrants to come forward and register for a temporary worker program that eventually placed them on a path to citizenship. Facing a choice between a registration and earned-legalization plan and a plan that includes deportation and enforcement-only, respondents favored the earned legalization plan 58% to 33%. In addition, 67% of respondents indicate they would have a more favorable view of President Bush if he supported an earned legalization reform plan.”

Excerpt taken from http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/immigration_pol_pr.htm.

Now this is not exactly a ‘fresh’ poll, I do not imagine these numbers will be anything but high since the recent demonstration.

We need to enforce the current laws on the books. Agencies, Municipalities, and the lot that refuse to enforce current laws should have their grants, Federal monies, and matching funds taken away. The Federal Government is responsible ‘to provide for the Common Defense’, that’s in the Constitution; you all should look it up some time. The issue at hand is not an immigration issue, it is a planned invasion. Take a look at the organizations that are sponsoring all of the immigration rallies. You will find a vast majority have nothing to do with the ‘rights of illegal immigrants’ , and everything to do with causing civil discourse, and even uprising and taking back territories that used to ‘belong to Mexico’.

This is what the MEChA Constitution says (Article II, section 1): “General membership shall consist of any student who accepts, believes and works for the goals and objectives of MEChA, including the liberation of AZTLAN, meaning self-determination of our people in this occupied state and the physical liberation of our land.”

From “El Plan de Aztlan”: In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal “gringo” invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny.

Rodolfo Acuña’s Occupied America claims the Southwest for Mexicans. Chicano activists (Chicanismo) push not only for civil rights for illegal Mexicans but also for the return (reconquista) of the lost provinces to form Aztlán. Chicanismo demands Spanish language and culture education, not English or American cultural schooling.

So at what point, or cost, do you in the Republican Leadership stop pandering to the Hispanic vote, and support your base. If you have not noticed, your base is eroding fast. And if some of these fringe groups have their way, you will not have a State to represent.

The sad fact is, you will most likely just write me off as a ‘bigot, or racist’ because I dare to speak the truth about immigration. This could not be further than the truth. I have no problems with ‘legal immigration’. I have absolutely no problem with Hispanics. But I am a patriot, and a law abiding citizen, and I do have a problem with blatant disrespect of our laws and our sovereignty. But more, I hold contempt for those whom I have given my trust to represent me, who betray their constituents.

It’s time for a new Republican Party, the current Republican Party has deserted us, from the President all the way down. There are a few brave souls out there, Rep. Poe and Rep. Culberson come to mind, that are doing the publics business. Senator Cornyn, I appeal to you to rethink you stance on immigration, and support legislation that takes away incentives for persons to be here illegally. Senator Hutchinson, my grandfather used to have a saying ‘dance with the one that brung ya’, you need to remember who it is you are representing. The time is coming very soon where we as Republicans will demand representation by you or someone else who will.

    From John Cornyn

Thank you for contacting me about immigration reform. The need to fix our broken system is clear, and Congress is currently debating two proposals regarding one of the most important issues in recent memory.

Immigration reform ultimately must be about improving legal immigration, not about creating a new process that benefits only illegal aliens. Although we are a nation of immigrants, we are also a nation of laws. If all immigrants must abide by the rule of law and are treated equally, then we can reach a consensus on ways to improve the legal process so that it meets the needs of society, the economy, and our national security.

Last July, as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security, Immigration, and Citizenship, I worked closely with Arizona Senator Jon Kyl to formulate the Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act of 2005 (S. 1438). This legislation offers no amnesty but includes provisions to strengthen border security, ensure jobsite enforcement, and sensibly handle the undocumented population currently living within our borders. It is based on both the rule of law and the fundamental American principle of fairness.

Unfortunately, the Senate passed the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 by a vote of 62 to 36. I voted against the bill because it has serious flaws and the net loss it would cause our country. During the Senate debate I tried to improve the legislation in preparation for its consideration by a House-Senate conference, where it could be improved even more. The final result must be marked improvement in border security, employer accountability, better assimilation of legal immigrants, and compensation for state expenses incurred from illegal immigration.

Ultimately, the final immigration plan will be worked out in a conference committee that will reconcile the differences between the House of Representatives’ immigration bill (H.R. 4437) and the Senate bill (S. 2611). I will be on that committee, and I look forward to creating immigration laws that will be respected by American citizens and upheld by all levels of government.

As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security, Immigration, and Citizenship, I will continue working to curtail illegal immigration and its effects on the State of Texas while ensuring that immigrants following the rule of law have an equal opportunity to realize their potential as they become productive members of our society. To better acquaint you with the reforms I support, I have compiled detailed summaries of S. 1438 and other relevant information at http://cornyn.senate.gov/immigration.

I appreciate the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    JOHN CORNYN
    United States Senator
